Blast from the past

My first college roommate & friend from Jr. High & High School, Angela (Brooke) Howard came to see us this weekend. I was pretty nervous about it, since things didn't really end well between us before. In fact, I hadn't spoken to her in about nine years when a mutual friend of my sister's brought up that they work together. Complicated enough for ya'? We'd started emailing back and forth. She finished college, just got married, and is living in San Antonio working as a computer programmer. She had a shoebox of my stuff that she'd taped up and kept over the years, and offered to bring it back to me.
The visit went pretty well. I was feeling pretty insecure at the start, but I came out with the feeling that things are kinda' the way they always were, she and I just have different wants and different ways of looking at things. The mystery shoebox was exciting. We opened it up, and of course, there were several small toys. A couple of balls, a toy car, a watch, some goggles, an empty address book. Yep, the kind of stuff I'm likely to have (and to lose). There was also a smaller box containing a couple of my ninth grade report cards and some angry girl style of writing from '92. Most of it was really bad, it cracked me up. The best thing, however, was a box of jewelry. Good jewelry. The kind that, sadly, I didn't appreciate when I was in high school and it was given to me. I was very excited to get it back, especially my confirmation cross and an egyptian cartoush with my name in hieroglyphics.
On another funny note, her husband came to the visit, too. He's a computer guy that used to play D&D, and spent most of his time digging into Michael's gaming books. Ha!
